Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2017
We are proud to announce the founder of Turbo Staff – Ihaka Rongonui – has been named the winner of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year in NZ!
The EY Entrepreneur of the Year is the World’s most prestigious business award for Entrepreneurs, with more than 45 countries taking part in the annual EY competition. The judging panel has narrowed the entries down to five inspiring Entrepreneurs for the Young, Service, Product, Master, Technology & Emerging Industries categories – and will be choosing a national winner in October who then heads to Monaco to compete for the world title.
Ihaka created Turbo Staff four years ago to help with the Christchurch rebuild. Rather than focus solely on recruiting staff, the business doubles as an accommodation supplier for workers, along with a fly in/fly out placement service. Due to the increased demand for skilled workers and a lack of local labour, the turbo team work hard to locate quality national and international workers, delivering the skills required for a variety of projects.
“The judging panel said they were impressed with the opportunities Rongonui was giving to people in under-developed countries, to come to New Zealand and learn new skills. He has built a successful business in a short space of time, which has a lot of potential and a strong strategy for expanding into Australia. He has even had one of his employees certified as an immigration consultant, so he’s looking at his business very holistically.”
Ihaka says it has been an amazing experience so far, meeting so many exceptional Entrepreneurs and hearing their success stories has been humbling.
